The ABS has recently released statistics on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander labour force. Despite many promises and programs to support employment in fact there seems to have been a backwards step. For example, the unemployment rate increased 4%. Unemployment is 19% in major cities, 20% in regional areas and 10% in remote areas (this last figure is problematic according to the ABS and does not include the number of people who are not even looking for work due to the limited number of opportunities in remote areas).

An interesting analysis of these figures can be read at Crikey.com http://www.crikey.com.au/2010/06/04/closing-the-gap-rudd-overpromised-on-indigenous-unemployment/?source=cmailer
